Briefing
Big-ticket retail sales (fitted kitchens, renovation, furnishing) almost never close in one visit. A typical project runs across two or three appointments, and what happens between them decides the outcome. The consultant leaves the first meeting with an impression of the customer, and very little that survives contact with a busy week.
Preparation quality varies enormously from one consultant to the next, and it collapses under load. The notes from the first appointment sit unused, the second meeting reopens ground already covered, and the objection that actually mattered gets handled improvised. Strong closers do this preparation instinctively; nobody else has a way to learn it.
